Screen Recording

How screen recording works in Deskify, when to use it, and the compliance requirements you need to know.

What screen recording captures

Deskify's screen recording add-on records continuous video of the employee's primary monitor during active work sessions. Recording captures everything visible on screen — applications, browser content, documents — at low frame rate (2-4 fps) to minimize file size while maintaining meaningful playback quality. Audio is not recorded.

Recording sessions

Recording begins when the employee starts an active work session and the screen recording add-on is enabled for their account. A visible recording indicator appears in the system tray so employees always know when recording is active. Recording pauses during idle periods and resumes when activity resumes. Session recordings are automatically segmented into 30-minute chunks for easier review.

Storage and retention

Recordings are stored in Cloudflare R2 object storage, encrypted at rest. The default retention period is 90 days. File sizes range from 50-200MB per hour of recording depending on screen resolution and content. For a team with screen recording enabled full-time, plan for approximately 500MB-2GB per user per week. Monitor storage usage in the billing dashboard.

Access and playback

Recordings are accessible to admins from the Recordings page in the dashboard. Select a user and date to view available recordings. Playback is in-browser — no download is required for review. Download is available for admins who need to export recordings for external review or compliance purposes.

The screen recording add-on

Screen recording is an add-on feature, not included in the base Deskify plans. It is available on Growth and Business plans. Pricing is per seat — you configure which users have recording enabled. For most teams, recording is appropriate for a subset of roles rather than all employees. The add-on allows granular control over which seats have recording enabled.
